Marie's Pledge Page

Dear Friends and Family,

I have the amazing opportunity to travel to Jamaica in June on a mission with a non-profit organization called Therapy Missions. We are working with the Mustard Seed Community Organization. My team and I leave on June 16th and will be living and working in the Kingston, Jamaica area for 7 days. While we are there we will live and work at orphanages for children and adults with disabilities.

In Jamaica, the Mustard Seed is caring for nearly 400 children, teens and adults in 15 different orphanages. While in Jamaica we will bring our professional skills to assess and treat the children, helping them to reach their potential while assisting them in becoming participating members of their community. For many, this means adapting a wheelchair to make sitting more functional or giving someone an alternate means to communicate with others. We will aid others in learning how to feed and dress themselves.

Although individual treatment will take place, our main emphasis during the week will be to teach and train the dedicated staff that work at the orphanages. We will do this by holding daily workshops and working side by side with the staff. Our goal is to leave the staff with the ability to carry on our work after we leave. Therapy Missions has made a five year commitment to this mission.

I am looking forward to this opportunity to use my social work skills to make a difference in the lives of those who have been abandoned because of disability or disease. In addition to your thoughts and prayers, you can help the children by contributing to my fundraising effort. I’ve set a goal of $1500 that I aim to raise to help me pay for my expenses for this mission. Donations to Therapy Missions that are made in my name are tax deductible. You can send a check to: Therapy Missions 35 Ann Drive East Greenwich, RI 02818. Please indicate that the donation is for my trip on the check or make a donation online at the link below.

I cannot thank you enough for your support – it means such a great deal to me personally and even more to the children that I will serve. Please help me spread the word about the work of Therapy Missions and check out our website: www.therapymissions.org.

Thank you!

Marie
